Contexte : Les médias jouent un rôle central dans la formation des évaluations sociales de différents groupes humains. Malgré les représentations médiatiques dominantes véhiculant des stéréotypes préjudiciables sur l'autisme, les personnes autistes utilisent activement les médias comme un espace accessible de connexion, de défense des droits et de communauté. Les personnes autistes tendent à davantage trouver un écho auprès de pairs autistes, tandis que les personnes non autistes se font des impressions moins favorables des personnes autistes. Aucune étude n'a directement examiné les évaluations sociales par des personnes autistes et non autistes de contenus médiatiques produits par des personnes autistes ou portant sur des expériences vécues autistes. Ici, nous avons examiné l'évaluation sociale dépendante du neurotype à l'aide d'une nouvelle tâche écologiquement valide. Méthodes : Nous avons compilé des vidéos de contenus autistes et de contenus non autistes à partir d'entretiens, de vlogs, de téléréalité et de documentaires accessibles au public. Un comité consultatif composé de cinq membres autistes a validé les extraits. Nous avons présenté ces vidéos à 73 adultes autistes et 223 adultes non autistes recrutés via Prolific. Les participants ont évalué et interprété les vidéos selon trois dimensions de l'évaluation sociale : la connexité (sentiment de parenté, identification), la clarté du contenu (compréhension de la vidéo) et les jugements valenciés (plaisir, inconfort, amabilité, gêne). Nous avons utilisé une analyse de variance factorielle mixte afin d'examiner les différences dans les évaluations selon les conditions vidéo et les neurotypes des participants. Nous avons examiné les interprétations des vidéos par les participants à l'aide d'analyses thématiques réflexives et de contenu, complétées par un modèle linéaire généralisé mixte afin de comparer quantitativement les différences entre les groupes. Résultats : Les adultes autistes et non autistes ont rapporté un plus grand sentiment de parenté, une plus grande identification et une meilleure compréhension des contenus vidéo correspondant à leurs propres neurotypes. Les adultes autistes ont également rapporté davantage de plaisir et d'amabilité pour les vidéos de contenus autistes que pour les vidéos de contenus non autistes. Les interprétations en texte libre ont montré des profils dépendants du neurotype : les adultes non autistes ont évalué plus négativement les vidéos de contenus autistes, tandis que les deux groupes se rapportaient davantage aux vidéos correspondant à leur neurotype et exprimaient une absence de sentiment de parenté envers celles qui ne correspondaient pas. Conclusions : Ces résultats soulignent l'importance de reconnaître les différences associées au neurotype dans l'évaluation et l'interprétation des médias. Ces différences peuvent découler d'attentes et d'expériences sociales divergentes. Ils suggèrent également que les espaces en ligne peuvent soutenir la socialité et le bien-être des personnes autistes.
