Résumé
Pendant de nombreuses années, les interventions précoces pour l’autisme ont été élaborées sans la participation de personnes autistes. Cette revue explore les points de vue et les expériences d’adultes autistes concernant les interventions psychosociales et éducatives destinées aux jeunes enfants autistes. Quatre bases de données (Web of Science Core Collection, Education Resource Information Centre, Education Database et PsycINFO) ont été consultées ; 19 études ont été identifiées. L’évaluation de la qualité a été réalisée à l’aide de l’outil Quality Assessment with Diverse Studies. Les données qualitatives ont été analysées au moyen d’une synthèse thématique. Les données quantitatives ont été analysées au moyen d’une synthèse narrative descriptive, comprenant une description textuelle, une mise en tableau et une représentation visuelle. Cinq thèmes ont été élaborés parmi les études comportant des données qualitatives : Écouter la voix de l’enfant, Laisser l’enfant être un enfant, Célébrer les vies autistes, Comprendre les défis autistiques et, enfin, un thème transversal, Dommages causés, portant sur les expériences négatives de personnes autistes ayant bénéficié d’interventions précoces. Dans les études comportant des données quantitatives, les personnes autistes approuvaient le bien-être, le soutien et l’accessibilité pour les adultes, ainsi que la réduction des comportements nocifs, et n’approuvaient pas les résultats liés à la réduction des traits autistiques. Nous concluons que, selon les adultes autistes, les interventions précoces devraient adopter une approche qui affirme l’autisme, être appropriées sur le plan développemental et favoriser l’autodétermination. Étant donné que la présente recherche incluait des études issues de cultures et de milieux variés, des recherches supplémentaires sont nécessaires pour examiner comment les différences individuelles influencent les perspectives sur les interventions. Résumé vulgarisé Notre étude visait à comprendre ce que des études antérieures avaient constaté lorsqu’elles demandaient à des adultes autistes leur avis sur l’intervention et le soutien destinés aux jeunes enfants autistes. Nous nous intéressions aux points de vue des adultes autistes, qu’ils aient ou non participé à des interventions précoces. Après avoir effectué des recherches dans des archives en ligne, nous avons trouvé 19 études pertinentes. Nous avons évalué la qualité des études, puis séparé les données qualitatives, fondées sur des textes, et quantitatives, fondées sur des nombres. Dans les études comportant des données qualitatives, nous avons trouvé cinq thèmes. Écouter la voix de l’enfant traite de l’assentiment de l’enfant, Laisser l’enfant être un enfant aborde un soutien fondé sur le jeu et agréable, Célébrer les vies autistes porte sur l’acceptation de l’autisme et Comprendre les défis autistiques examine comment rendre la société plus accessible. Dommages causés décrit les expériences négatives de personnes autistes ayant participé à des interventions précoces. Les études comportant des données quantitatives étaient très différentes les unes des autres, nous avons donc décrit leurs aspects similaires. Dans quatre études quantitatives, des personnes autistes ont évalué les objectifs d’intervention selon la qualité ou l’importance de l’objectif pour l’enfant. Les personnes autistes ont déclaré que les meilleurs objectifs ou les plus importants portaient sur la sécurité, le bien-être de l’enfant et le soutien des adultes. Les objectifs les moins bons ou les moins importants portaient sur la modification de caractéristiques autistiques telles que le stimming et le contact visuel. Un graphique a été réalisé pour le montrer. Nous avons besoin de davantage de recherches sur les pratiques et les contextes d’intervention, ainsi que de davantage de recherches dans lesquelles nous interrogeons diverses personnes autistes : parents autistes, enfants autistes, hommes, personnes de couleur et personnes ayant des besoins de soutien plus importants. Les chercheurs et les praticiens peuvent utiliser ces résultats pour élaborer et fournir un soutien qui corresponde aux priorités des personnes autistes.
