Résumé
La définition d’objectifs fait partie intégrante de la prestation d’un soutien efficace, mais les perspectives communautaires sur les objectifs de soutien pour les enfants autistes restent peu connues. Au total, 41 adultes autistes, 50 parents d’enfants autistes et 31 professionnels cliniciens vivant en Nouvelle-Zélande et en Australie ont répondu à des questions d’enquête ouvertes concernant leurs perceptions des objectifs de soutien pour les jeunes enfants autistes. Une analyse thématique réflexive a abouti à cinq thèmes généraux liés aux objectifs de soutien précoce : (a) affirmation de la neurodiversité, (b) changer l’environnement, et non l’enfant, (c) aider les adultes à soutenir les enfants autistes, (d) qualité de vie et (e) respecter les limites. Les perspectives des adultes autistes, des parents et des professionnels étaient pour la plupart concordantes.
