Résumé
Un portefeuille diversifié de relations sociales est important pour le bien-être des personnes, y compris à la fois des relations fortes et sûres avec autrui (« liens étroits ») et des interactions occasionnelles avec des connaissances et des inconnus (« liens faibles »). Presque toute la recherche sur l’autisme s’est concentrée sur les liens étroits des personnes autistes avec les amis, la famille et les partenaires intimes, ce qui a conduit à une compréhension radicalement restreinte de la socialité autiste. Ici, nous avons cherché à comprendre le pouvoir potentiel des interactions de liens faibles en nous appuyant sur 95 entretiens semi-structurés avec de jeunes personnes autistes et des adultes autistes, menés pendant la pandémie de COVID-19. Nous avons analysé les données qualitatives au moyen d’une analyse thématique réflexive dans un cadre essentialiste. Pendant les confinements liés à la COVID-19, les personnes autistes ont profondément regretté non seulement leurs relations personnelles étroites, mais aussi leurs « contacts sociaux fortuits » avec des connaissances et des inconnus. Ces interactions de liens faibles semblent remplir pour les personnes autistes des fonctions similaires à celles qu’elles remplissent pour les personnes non autistes, notamment en favorisant le bien-être. Ces résultats ont des implications importantes tant pour les futures recherches sur la socialité autiste que pour la conception de services et de soutiens pratiques visant à accroître les possibilités pour les personnes autistes de s’épanouir.
