Contexte : Un nombre croissant de recherches ont cherché à comprendre les priorités de recherche des personnes autistes. Plusieurs de ces études ont identifié l'emploi comme une priorité de recherche majeure. Cependant, peu de tentatives ont été faites pour identifier des priorités spécifiques et concrètes dans ce domaine. Méthodes : Au moyen d'une enquête en ligne, nous avons interrogé 197 personnes autistes au Royaume-Uni sur leurs priorités pour les futures recherches sur l'autisme et l'emploi. Résultats : Les participants ont évoqué leurs difficultés à obtenir et à conserver un emploi valorisant et ont appelé les chercheurs à mener des recherches qui aboutissent à des améliorations directes des expériences d'emploi. Concernant leurs priorités de recherche, les participants ont indiqué la nécessité de recherches couvrant tous les aspects du parcours de l'emploi, de l'accès à l'emploi à la transition hors de l'emploi. Il est important de noter que les participants ont également discuté de la manière dont ces recherches devraient être menées : avec des personnes autistes en tant que co-chercheurs et en veillant à ce qu'un éventail diversifié de personnes autistes soit écouté. Conclusion : Bien qu'une grande partie des recherches existantes sur l'autisme et l'emploi semble correspondre aux priorités décrites dans cette étude, une attention apparemment minimale a été accordée aux étapes ultérieures du parcours professionnel (par exemple, progresser vers des postes plus élevés ou quitter le travail). En identifiant les écarts entre les priorités des personnes autistes et les recherches menées, nous pouvons aider les personnes autistes à orienter le programme de recherche et veiller à ce que les recherches sur l'autisme et l'emploi aient un impact positif sur la communauté qu'elles visent à servir.
