Malgré la possession de compétences précieuses, les différences de communication sociale font que les personnes autistes sont fréquemment désavantagées lors des entretiens d'embauche. Nous avons examiné comment des adultes autistes et non autistes se comparaient face à des questions d'entretien d'embauche standard (non modifiées), puis avons utilisé ces résultats pour élaborer et évaluer des adaptations de soutien aux questions. Cinquante adultes (25 autistes, 25 non autistes) ont participé à deux simulations d'entretiens d'embauche. L'entretien 1 a fourni une mesure de référence de la performance lors des réponses à des questions d'entretien typiques et non modifiées. Des experts de l'emploi (non informés des diagnostics d'autisme des participants) ont évalué tous les candidats interrogés quant à leur performance spécifique à chaque question et aux impressions générales, puis ont fourni des retours sur la manière dont les candidats pouvaient s'améliorer et dont les questions pouvaient être adaptées pour faciliter cela. Les candidats interrogés ont également fourni des retours sur le processus d'entretien de leur point de vue. Des adaptations aux questions ont été élaborées, l'entretien 2 ayant eu lieu environ 6 mois plus tard. Les résultats ont montré que, lors de l'entretien 1, les experts de l'emploi ont évalué les candidats autistes moins favorablement que les candidats non autistes. Les évaluations des réponses des participants autistes et non autistes se sont améliorées lors de l'entretien 2, mais particulièrement pour les candidats autistes (de sorte que les différences entre la performance des candidats autistes et non autistes ont diminué lors de l'entretien 2).
