Les mesures des traits autistiques ne sont utiles — pour le dépistage prédiagnostique, l'exploration des différences individuelles et l'acquisition d'une compréhension personnelle — que si elles évaluent efficacement et avec précision l'autisme tel qu'il est actuellement conceptualisé, tout en maintenant une validité psychométrique dans différents groupes démographiques. Nous avons recruté 1322 adultes autistes et 1279 adultes non autistes qui variaient selon leur statut d'autisme (non autiste, autiste diagnostiqué, autiste s'auto-identifiant) et leur genre (hommes cisgenres, femmes cisgenres, personnes de genre divers) afin d'évaluer les propriétés psychométriques du Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory, une mesure récemment développée des traits autistiques qui examine six domaines de traits au moyen de 42 énoncés d'autoévaluation. L'ajustement factoriel des six sous-échelles était approprié, de même que la fiabilité de l'échelle totale et des sous-échelles. Il est important de noter que l'invariance de mesure a été démontrée sur la base du statut d'autisme et du genre, ce qui indique que les scores au Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory des membres de ces groupes peuvent être directement comparés. Les traits autistiques étaient très similaires entre les adultes autistes diagnostiqués et ceux s'auto-identifiant comme autistes, tandis que les participants de genre divers présentaient davantage de traits autistiques que leurs homologues cisgenres. Un seuil de discrimination de l'échelle totale calculé à 147,5 a été proposé, correspondant à une sensibilité et une spécificité de 77,20 et 87,41, respectivement. Notre analyse indique que le Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory est une mesure pratique des traits autistiques chez les participants non autistes et autistes, utile pour les chercheurs et les cliniciens ainsi que pour l'affirmation de l'auto-identité. Résumé grand public Le Comprehensive Autistic Trait Inventory (CATI) est un questionnaire gratuit conçu pour mesurer les traits autistiques chez les adultes autistes et non autistes. Le CATI comprend 42 items portant sur six domaines : les interactions sociales, la communication, le camouflage social, les comportements d'autorégulation, la flexibilité cognitive et la sensibilité sensorielle. Ici, nous avons cherché à déterminer si le CATI peut mesurer avec précision les traits autistiques chez les personnes autistes (à la fois diagnostiquées et s'auto-identifiant comme autistes) et non autistes, ainsi que chez des personnes de différents genres. Nous voulions également explorer dans quelle mesure les scores de traits différaient entre ces groupes d'individus. Notre étude a recruté plus de 2600 participants, dont 1322 adultes autistes et 1279 adultes non autistes. Nos résultats suggèrent que le CATI fonctionne comme il a été conçu pour fonctionner. C'est un outil fiable et précis pour mesurer les traits autistiques, qui peut distinguer les personnes autistes des personnes non autistes et qui semble approprié pour les personnes de différents genres. Il est à noter que nous avons constaté que les personnes qui s'auto-identifient comme autistes ont des scores de traits similaires à ceux des personnes ayant un diagnostic clinique d'autisme et que les personnes de genre divers ont obtenu des scores plus élevés de traits autistiques que les personnes cisgenres. Nos données suggèrent que le CATI est un outil utile pour mesurer les traits autistiques chez les personnes autistes et non autistes et pour comprendre la manière dont les personnes autistes diffèrent les unes des autres. Il devrait être utile aux chercheurs et aux cliniciens et favoriser une compréhension publique de l'autisme.
