Introduction : L’objectif de cet article centré sur la pratique clinique est de favoriser des résultats équitables et affirmants pour les personnes neurodivergentes dans divers contextes en élaborant des stratégies qui gèrent la surcharge sensorielle, favorisent l’autorégulation et créent des environnements de soutien. L’auteur principal est autiste et présente des sensibilités sensorielles accrues, entraînant souvent une surcharge sensorielle dans des environnements comportant des lumières vives, des bruits forts, des odeurs intenses ou des espaces bondés. Le second auteur, devenu neurodivergent à la suite d’une hémorragie sous-arachnoïdienne, a également connu des changements dans le traitement sensoriel et une dérégulation du système nerveux en présence de lumières, de bruits, d’odeurs et dans certains espaces. Les personnes autistes et neurodivergentes peuvent présenter des sensibilités environnementales accrues. La théorie polyvagale (PVT) souligne le rôle du système nerveux autonome dans la médiation de la dérégulation du système nerveux. Le cadre SIGNAL : Informés par la PVT et leurs propres expériences, les auteurs proposent l’application du cadre SIGNAL : Sécuriser la sécurité (c’est-à-dire répondre aux besoins sensoriels et réduire les signaux de menace), Identifier les états du système nerveux autonome (c’est-à-dire comprendre comment les individus traitent l’information et réagissent à l’environnement), Guider la corégulation (c’est-à-dire gérer ses actions et ses comportements par l’intégration de fonctions telles que la motivation, la perception, l’émotion et le comportement orienté vers un objectif), Sensibilisation à la neuroception (c’est-à-dire comprendre comment les états du système nerveux autonome façonnent le comportement et les états physiologiques internes), Appliquer des principes de PVT affirmant la neurodivergence (c’est-à-dire mobiliser le complexe vagal ventral et favoriser un état interne régulé), et Mener un changement de paradigme (c’est-à-dire passer au paradigme de la neurodiversité et à un soutien affirmant la neurodivergence). Discussion : SIGNAL intègre des principes de la PVT dans la création d’environnements inclusifs, sûrs et affirmant la neurodiversité. Il fournit également des étapes concrètes aux orthophonistes et aux autres professionnels travaillant avec des populations neurodivergentes.
