Des recherches antérieures ont démontré que les personnes autistes transmettent les informations verbales aussi efficacement que les personnes non autistes ; cependant, lorsque des personnes autistes et non autistes interagissent, moins d'informations sont transmises. Nous avons testé si ces résultats se généralisaient à une tâche nécessitant la transmission d'informations principalement visuelles et avons examiné avec quelle précision les participants auto-évaluaient leur performance. Trois cent dix adultes (dont 154 autistes) ont été affectés à l'une des trois conditions de chaînes de diffusion de six personnes : (i) autistes, (ii) non autistes, (iii) mixtes, autistes et non autistes. Le participant 1 de chaque chaîne a regardé une vidéo d'un expérimentateur créant une forme de chien à partir d'un jouet puzzle qui pouvait être manipulé. Le participant 1 a montré au participant 2 comment réaliser une forme de chien, le participant 2 l'a montré au participant 3, et ainsi de suite jusqu'à la fin de la chaîne. La Performance objective a été notée comme le nombre de pièces du puzzle à l'emplacement correct ; l'auto-évaluation a été mesurée sur une échelle de 100 points, et la similarité de cette auto-évaluation a été calculée en la comparant à la Performance objective. Les analyses n'ont indiqué aucune différence dans la quantité d'informations transmises entre les chaînes autistes, non autistes ou mixtes, ni dans les évaluations d'auto-évaluation et leur similarité. Les participants autistes et non autistes ont tous deux partagé des informations avec d'autres personnes et évalué leur performance de manière similaire, ce qui concorde avec les travaux antérieurs sur la transmission d'informations verbales. Cependant, la rupture prédite du partage d'informations dans les chaînes mixtes ne s'est pas produite. Il est possible qu'une divergence de neurotype n'ait pas d'incidence sur la transmission d'informations moins verbales et davantage visuospatiales. L'hétérogénéité de l'échantillon a également pu masquer tout effet du neurotype.
