Résumé

Des théories récentes suggèrent que les caractéristiques des personnes autistes pourraient s’expliquer par des processus prédictifs atypiques. Cependant, ces théories manquent encore de preuves empiriques. L’objectif de cette thèse est d’étudier l’existence de spécificités des processus prédictifs chez les adultes autistes lors du traitement visuel des visages. Les travauxs’inscrivent plus spécifiquement dans le cadre du modèle de Bar et al. (2006), suggérant que la reconnaissance visuelle serait favorisée par des prédictions issues du traitement des basses fréquences spatiales. Les différences liées au sexe sont également examinées, afin de mieux caractériser les particularités neurocognitives des hommes et femmes autistes. Les résultats issus de protocoles en électrophysiologie et comportementaux suggèrent des particularités des processus prédictifs issus des basses fréquences spatiales chez les personnes autistes, mais essentiellement lors du traitement pré-attentionnel des visages. Lors du traitement attentionnel, les réponses cérébrales des personnes autistes semblent davantage préservées. De plus, un profil intermédiaire a été observé chez les femmes autistes, situé entre celui des hommes autistes et des participants contrôles. Enfin, les résultats ont mis en avant des difficultés chez les personnes autistes à mettre à jour leurs prédictions en fonction du contexte lors de la reconnaissance d’émotions. L’ensemble des travaux de cette thèse suggèrent des particularités des processus prédictifs chez les adultes autistes ayant un bon fonctionnement intellectuel, mais des analyses et études supplémentaires sont nécessaires pour en avoir une meilleure compréhension.
