Les informations grossières d'un stimulus visuel sont transmises par les basses fréquences spatiales (LSF) et seraient rapidement extraites afin de générer des prédictions. Cela peut guider une reconnaissance rapide grâce à l'intégration ultérieure d'informations fines, transmises par les hautes fréquences spatiales (HSF). Dans l'autisme, la reconnaissance des visages émotionnels est difficile et pourrait être liée à des altérations des processus prédictifs des LSF. Nous avons analysé les données de 27 adultes autistes et de 34 adultes non autistes (NA) dans une tâche de Stroop émotionnel (c'est-à-dire un visage émotionnel avec un mot émotionnel congruent ou incongruent) comportant des amorces filtrées spatialement (HSF contre LSF). Nous avons émis l'hypothèse que les amorces LSF généreraient des prédictions conduisant à une catégorisation plus rapide du visage cible que les amorces HSF, dans le groupe NA mais pas dans l'autisme. De manière surprenante, les amorces HSF ont conduit à une catégorisation plus rapide que les amorces LSF dans les deux groupes. De plus, l'avantage des amorces HSF par rapport aux amorces LSF était plus marqué pour les visages en colère que pour les visages heureux chez les NA, mais était plus marqué pour les visages heureux que pour les visages en colère chez les participants autistes. La modélisation par diffusion avec dérive a confirmé l'avantage des HSF et a montré un temps hors décision plus long (par exemple, l'encodage) dans l'autisme. Bien que les déficiences prédictives des LSF dans l'autisme n'aient pas été corroborées, nos analyses suggèrent des particularités du traitement de bas niveau dans l'autisme.
