Contexte Les étudiants neurodivergents connaissent moins de réussite que les étudiants non neurodivergents et sous-utilisent les soutiens disponibles, tout comme les étudiants présentant des conditions de santé mentale (MHC). Bien que les expériences de déclaration et de soutien des étudiants autistes aient été examinées, on en sait moins sur les étudiants présentant d'autres ou plusieurs conditions neurodivergentes et sur les étudiants non neurodivergents présentant des MHC. Méthode Nous avons recueilli les diagnostics, les expériences de déclaration, ainsi que les soutiens utilisés et souhaités auprès de 131 étudiants australiens et néo-zélandais neurodivergents et de 41 étudiants non neurodivergents au moyen d'une enquête à méthodes mixtes. Nous avons comparé les groupes quantitativement et qualitativement à l'aide d'une analyse de cadre. Résultats Davantage d'étudiants neurodivergents ont déclaré leur condition à leurs établissements (47–19 %), ont accédé à des soutiens (55–38 %) et ont utilisé davantage de soutiens que les étudiants non neurodivergents présentant des MHC actuelles. Seuls les étudiants neurodivergents ont fait état des thèmes de « honte », « identité et transparence », « diagnostiqué pendant l'enseignement supérieur » et « pourquoi arrêtés », tandis que davantage d'étudiants non neurodivergents se sont demandé « la déclaration en vaut-elle la peine », ayant « trouvé des moyens de compenser ». Les étudiants neurodivergents ont apporté cinq fois plus de commentaires, et la majorité souhaitait des soutiens dirigés par des mentors ou facilitateurs neurodivergents. Conclusion Les étudiants neurodivergents ont signalé davantage d'expériences de stigmatisation et de discrimination, y compris de la part de leurs pairs, ce qui peut influer sur le fait qu'ils cherchent du soutien et sur l'endroit où ils le cherchent. Les processus et les coûts liés à la déclaration ont eu des répercussions différentes, mais les deux groupes souhaitaient davantage de bienveillance et de flexibilité de la part des éducateurs. Les procédures d'inscription doivent être simplifiées, et de nouveaux soutiens doivent être co-conçus afin d'améliorer les résultats des étudiants.
