Résumé
Les adultes autistes sont confrontés à des taux alarmants de chômage et de sous-emploi. Les recherches sont limitées concernant la capacité des employeurs à soutenir les personnes autistes, à mieux comprendre les besoins des employeurs et leur rôle clé dans les processus d'emploi. Dans cette étude qualitative centrée sur les employeurs, 14 employeurs australiens et neuf experts professionnels ont été interrogés en profondeur. Les thèmes identifiés étaient : 1) la sensibilisation et les connaissances des employeurs sur l'autisme ; 2) l'autisme est une force plutôt qu'un déficit, un trouble ou un handicap ; 3) l'autonomisation des employeurs est un facilitateur clé du changement ; et 4) les outils relatifs à l'autisme pour l'employeur. Ces résultats soulignent la nécessité d'une formation continue des employeurs afin de renforcer les connaissances sur l'autisme sur le lieu de travail et d'aborder directement les variables environnementales du lieu de travail. Les nouvelles conclusions concernaient l'importance cruciale du soin de soi des employeurs et le traitement identique de tous les employés.
