Résumé

Résumé L’autisme dans le travail social se concentre généralement sur le travail avec des enfants ou des adultes qui sont usagers de services. Ce récit réflexif se concentre sur l’expérience vécue de l’auteur en tant que travailleur social autiste au Royaume-Uni et sur les raisons pour lesquelles il reste important d’informer la profession du travail social au sujet de l’autisme. En utilisant le pouvoir créatif et connectif de l’analogie, l’auteur identifie les forces que les travailleurs sociaux autistes peuvent offrir au sein du traumatisme du quotidien en tant que personne autiste, en situant cela dans le contexte de la pratique du travail social. L’auteur remet en question l’accent mis sur les déficits liés à l’autisme dans la recherche et la pratique, et offre l’occasion d’établir un lien avec votre compréhension de l’autisme et ce que cela peut signifier en termes de développement de votre propre pratique relationnelle et anti-oppressive.

Abstract Autism in social work generally focuses on working with children or adults who are users of services. This reflexive account focuses on the author’s lived experience as an Autistic social worker in the UK and why it is still important to inform the social work profession about autism. Using the creative and connective power of analogy, the author identifies the strengths Autistic social workers can offer within the trauma of the everyday as an Autistic person, locating this within the context of social work practice. The author challenges the deficit focus on autism within research and practice and offers opportunity to connect with your understanding of autism and what that may mean in terms of developing your own relational, anti-oppressive practice.
