Objectif Alors que l'attention portée à l'autisme à l'âge adulte s'accroît, réexaminer comment et auprès de qui les informations sont recueillies est essentiel afin de garantir que les adultes autistes reçoivent des soins adéquats et appropriés tout au long de la vie. L'accès aux évaluations de l'autisme, aux services concernant les troubles de santé mentale concomitants et l'identification des besoins en services à l'âge adulte sont difficiles. Les résultats en matière de santé mentale des adultes autistes demeurent relativement défavorables par rapport à leurs pairs non autistes. Une intégration accrue de l'auto-évaluation des personnes autistes permettra aux chercheurs et aux cliniciens de saisir les profils, les préoccupations et les besoins des personnes autistes de leur point de vue. Toutefois, le recours à un seul informateur, quel que soit le diagnostic ou l'état, comporte des limites. L'utilisation d'approches multi-informateurs fournit des informations supplémentaires en examinant la convergence et la divergence entre les informateurs. Conception/méthodologie/approche Cet article de point de vue vise à examiner l'utilisation des approches multi-informateurs, en ce qu'elles concernent les adultes autistes dans le cadre d'une approche affirmant la neurodiversité, du point de vue des chercheurs, des cliniciens, des membres de la famille d'adultes autistes et des personnes autistes engagées dans l'autoreprésentation. En s'appuyant sur la recherche sur les divergences, les lignes directrices diagnostiques pour adultes et l'expertise clinique, les auteurs exposent des considérations relatives à la sélection des informateurs, à l'interprétation contextuelle et à la gestion éthique des rapports divergents. Résultats Les auteurs mettent en évidence des difficultés propres aux adultes dans l'application de modèles multi-informateurs, notamment l'autonomie, le camouflage, les dynamiques relationnelles, les limites du rappel et le désaccord post-diagnostique, et formulent des recommandations pour sélectionner les informateurs, interpréter les divergences et communiquer les décisions d'évaluation de manière transparente. Originalité/valeur Alors que les lignes directrices existantes recommandent des informations collatérales dans l'évaluation de l'autisme chez l'adulte, peu d'orientations existent quant à la manière d'interpréter systématiquement les divergences ou de gérer les complexités liées aux informateurs à l'âge adulte. Cet article prolonge les orientations actuelles en proposant des perspectives et des recommandations pour intégrer de manière éthique et contextuelle des données multi-informateurs lors du travail avec des adultes autistes.
