La criminalité entre proches est un sous-ensemble spécifique des crimes de haine dans lequel l’auteur est connu de la victime. À ce jour, il existe très peu de recherches sur la perception et l’expérience de la criminalité entre proches dans l’autisme. L’objectif de la présente étude était d’examiner les perceptions de l’amitié et de la criminalité entre proches chez des adultes autistes, au moyen d’entretiens semi-structurés. Cinq adultes ont été interrogés sur leurs expériences des interactions sociales, des amitiés et de la criminalité entre proches. Les participants ont décrit le fait de prendre leurs distances avec l’étiquette de « handicap » pendant leur croissance afin d’éviter la condescendance et d’être perçus comme vulnérables, tout en apprenant à camoufler leurs difficultés sociales. Des sentiments d’anxiété étaient associés à la socialisation, et les participants appréciaient les relations qui n’imposaient pas trop d’exigences accablantes à leur temps ou à leur énergie. Enfin, tous les participants avaient des expériences antérieures de harcèlement. Ils comprenaient le concept de criminalité entre proches, mais n’étaient pas certains de pouvoir l’identifier dans leur propre vie si elle se produisait. Cependant, ils pouvaient identifier des réseaux de soutien potentiels parmi leurs amis proches et leur famille. Les résultats soulignent l’importance de poursuivre les recherches sur les aspects positifs et négatifs des relations sociales chez les adultes autistes, ainsi que la nécessité d’apporter un soutien aux personnes socialement vulnérables.
