Résumé
Alors qu’un enfant sur 59 reçoit un diagnostic d’autisme, les établissements d’enseignement supérieur connaissent une augmentation des inscriptions d’étudiants autistes. En outre, les étudiants autistes sont de manière disproportionnée plus susceptibles de s’identifier comme gays et lesbiennes en ce qui concerne leur orientation sexuelle et comme transgenres ou genderqueer en ce qui concerne leur identité de genre, comparativement à leurs pairs non handicapés. Cette étude de cas invite les lecteurs à réfléchir au rôle que les dirigeants éducatifs peuvent jouer pour répondre aux complexités liées au soutien d’un étudiant nommé Erik, un étudiant gay et autiste qui envisage de « faire son coming out ». Les lecteurs sont également invités à réfléchir aux implications de la prise en compte des questions de climat du campus pour les étudiants ayant des identités multiples et intersectionnelles.
