CONTEXTE : Ces dernières années, les interventions médiatisées par les parents pour les enfants atteints de trouble du spectre de l'autisme (TSA) ont augmenté. Par conséquent, la mise en œuvre de programmes efficaces de formation des parents d'enfants autistes est d'une importance capitale, en particulier dans les pays à revenu faible et intermédiaire. Cependant, on sait peu de choses sur l'état et les lacunes des connaissances des parents concernant le TSA, ce qui peut entraver l'élaboration de programmes valides de formation parentale. Dans cette étude, nous avons cherché à explorer l'état des connaissances, des attitudes et des comportements des parents chinois à l'égard du TSA, ainsi que les facteurs potentiels influençant l'acquisition de connaissances correctes. MÉTHODES : Cette étude a utilisé un questionnaire auto-conçu sur les connaissances parentales relatives à l'autisme (PKQA) comprenant 20 questions, ainsi qu'un autre questionnaire comprenant 17 questions supplémentaires couvrant les aspects démographiques familiaux, les attitudes et les comportements des parents. Au total, nous avons inclus 394 parents ayant consulté au service ambulatoire du Centre du développement et du comportement de l'enfant du troisième hôpital affilié de l'université Sun Yat-Sen entre décembre 2018 et mai 2019, dont les enfants répondaient aux critères diagnostiques du Manuel diagnostique et statistique des troubles mentaux, cinquième édition (DSM-5), pour le TSA. RÉSULTATS : Le score médian de connaissances au PKQA était de 15 [intervalle interquartile (IQR), 13-17]. Un âge paternel plus avancé et un intervalle plus long entre le diagnostic et l'inscription au programme de formation parentale étaient associés à un score total de connaissances plus faible (tous P<0,001). Un niveau d'études maternel plus élevé, un revenu familial plus élevé, le fait que l'enfant bénéficie actuellement d'une intervention et le fait que les membres de la famille partagent une perception commune du diagnostic étaient associés à un score total de connaissances plus élevé (tous P<0,01). La lecture de livres liés à l'autisme (P<0,001) ou la participation à des conférences professionnelles (P=0,019) étaient également associées à un score total de connaissances plus élevé. CONCLUSIONS : Dans l'ensemble, cette étude a révélé que les caractéristiques démographiques familiales ainsi que les attitudes et les comportements des parents à l'égard du TSA peuvent influencer significativement leurs connaissances sur l'autisme, ce qui suggère la nécessité de promouvoir des programmes de formation aux compétences parentales davantage ciblés.
