Résumé
Le syndrome d’Asperger a été introduit comme catégorie diagnostique distincte dans le DSM-4 (1994). Son absorption ultérieure dans le trouble du spectre de l’autisme dans le DSM-5 (2013) a suscité un débat vigoureux et des inquiétudes quant à la perte de l’identité Asperger unique. Les recherches existantes ont montré que des adultes ayant précédemment reçu un diagnostic d’Asperger ont exprimé un éventail diversifié d’opinions concernant les changements apportés par le DSM-5. Cette étude australienne a exploré le rôle du développement de l’identité liée au handicap dans les réponses à ce changement au moyen d’entretiens semi-structurés avec 12 adultes ayant reçu un diagnostic d’Asperger selon le DSM-4. Leurs points de vue différents ne semblaient pas être fonction de variables démographiques ; un lien a été identifié entre les points de vue des participants sur ce changement et des stades différents d’intégration aux identités Asperger et/ou autistique.
