CONTEXTE : Les anomalies de la perception auditive sont fréquentes chez les personnes appartenant au spectre de l'autisme. Les fondements neurophysiologiques de ces différences ont fréquemment été étudiés à l'aide des potentiels évoqués liés à des événements auditifs (ERP) et des champs magnétiques liés à des événements auditifs (ERF). Cependant, aucune étude à ce jour n'a synthétisé quantitativement cette littérature afin de déterminer si les latences ou les amplitudes précoces des ERP/ERF auditifs chez les personnes autistes diffèrent de celles des sujets témoins au développement typique. MÉTHODES : Nous avons effectué des recherches dans PubMed et ProQuest afin d'identifier des études comparant 1) les latences/amplitudes des composantes ERP/ERF P1/M50, N1b, N1c, M100, P2/M200 et/ou N2 évoquées par des sons purs et 2) le filtrage sensoriel à clics appariés (suppression de l'amplitude P1/N1b) chez des personnes autistes et des sujets témoins au développement typique. Les effets ont été synthétisés à l'aide d'une méta-analyse bayésienne à 3 niveaux. RÉSULTATS : En réponse à des sons purs, les personnes autistes présentaient des latences P1/M50 prolongées (g = 0.341 [intervalle de crédibilité à 95 % = 0.166, 0.546]), des latences M100 prolongées (g = 0.319 [0.093, 0.550]), des amplitudes N1c réduites (g = -0.812 [-1.278, -0.187]) et des amplitudes N2 réduites (g = -0.374 [-0.633, -0.179]). Il n'y avait pas de différences de groupe significatives sur le plan pratique concernant les latences P2/M200, les latences N2, les amplitudes P1/M50, les amplitudes N1b, les amplitudes M100 ou les amplitudes P2/M200. Le filtrage sensoriel à clics appariés était également réduit chez les personnes autistes (g = -0.389 [-0.619, -0.112]), bien que cet effet ait été principalement induit par des réponses plus faibles au premier stimulus de clic. CONCLUSIONS : Par rapport aux sujets témoins au développement typique, les personnes autistes présentent de multiples altérations du traitement auditif cortical précoce de stimuli simples. Cependant, la plupart des différences entre les groupes étaient d'ampleur modeste et fondées sur un petit nombre d'études hétérogènes de qualité variable. Des travaux futurs sont nécessaires pour comprendre si ces mesures neurophysiologiques peuvent prédire des résultats cliniquement significatifs ou servir de biomarqueurs de stratification pour la population autiste.
