Le fait d’être de sexe féminin et autiste est mal compris, mais l’autisme est-il réellement « rare » chez les femmes ? Historiquement, l’autisme a été associé à des caractéristiques traditionnellement masculines et à des stéréotypes comportementaux, certains estimant que l’autisme ne se manifestait que chez les hommes [1]. Cela conduit la recherche scientifique à la question cruciale de savoir s’il y a davantage d’hommes vivant avec l’autisme ou si, à l’inverse, les femmes sur le spectre autistique se présentent différemment des hommes et risquent donc de rester non diagnostiquées ?
