Le traitement perceptif amélioré des caractéristiques visuelles chez les enfants présentant un trouble du spectre de l'autisme (TSA) est étayé par de nombreuses données dans le domaine spatial, tandis que les données sont moins solides concernant son extension éventuelle aux informations présentées dans le temps. La présente étude visait à reproduire et à étendre des travaux antérieurs montrant que les enfants présentant un TSA avaient une exactitude perceptive améliorée pour détecter des cibles fondées sur des caractéristiques (mais non définies catégoriellement) dans le temps, lorsque celles-ci étaient présentées rapidement, avec une asynchronie de début des stimuli (SOA) de 50 ms par élément. Plus précisément, nous étendons la plage des SOA afin d'examiner les limites temporelles de cette exactitude améliorée et d'examiner s'il existe une relation entre les traits liés au TSA et l'exactitude de détection dans des tâches de recherche visuelle temporelle. Les personnes autistes ont perçu les cibles fondées sur des caractéristiques avec une exactitude statistiquement supérieure à celle de leurs pairs au développement typique pour des SOA comprises entre 39 et 65 ms, et elles étaient numériquement plus rapides à toutes les SOA. Aucune différence entre les groupes n'a été relevée concernant l'exactitude de la tâche fondée sur les catégories. Nos résultats ont également montré que les traits liés au TSA, mesurés par le quotient du spectre autistique, étaient positivement corrélés à l'exactitude dans la tâche fondée sur des caractéristiques. Dans l'ensemble, les résultats suggèrent que la perception visuelle exacte des caractéristiques, en particulier la couleur, est améliorée chez les enfants présentant un TSA au fil du temps. Résumé grand public Nos résultats suggèrent que les enfants autistes sont capables de traiter des caractéristiques visuelles, telles que la couleur, avec davantage d'exactitude que les enfants au développement typique, même lorsque celles-ci sont présentées très rapidement. L'exactitude était plus élevée chez les enfants présentant des niveaux plus élevés de traits et de symptômes liés à l'autisme. Nos résultats suggèrent qu'une perception visuelle plus exacte existe non seulement dans l'espace chez les enfants autistes, comme le montre une grande partie de la littérature existante, mais aussi dans le temps.
