Résumé
Le tempérament de l'enfant et la détresse psychologique des aidants ont été associés indépendamment à des difficultés socio-émotionnelles chez les personnes autistes. Toutefois, l'interrelation entre ces facteurs de risque a rarement été étudiée. Nous avons exploré l'interaction réciproque entre le tempérament de l'enfant (exubérance, affectivité négative et autorégulation) et la détresse psychologique des aidants dans le développement de symptômes intériorisés et extériorisés chez l'enfant, au sein d'une cohorte de 103 nourrissons présentant des traits autistiques précoces. Les aidants ont rempli des questionnaires lorsque les enfants étaient âgés d'environ 12 mois (temps 1 [T1]), 18 mois (temps 2 [T2]) et 24 mois (temps 3 [T3]). Des modèles de cheminement à décalage croisé ont révélé une voie significative allant de la détresse psychologique des aidants au T1, par l'intermédiaire d'une autorégulation plus faible de l'enfant au T2, vers des symptômes intériorisés plus importants chez l'enfant au T3. Aucune voie de ce type, induite par les aidants, n'a été mise en évidence par l'intermédiaire de l'affectivité négative de l'enfant au T2 ni dans la prédiction des symptômes extériorisés de l'enfant au T3. En outre, aucun élément ne soutenait l'existence de voies induites par le tempérament, passant par la détresse psychologique des aidants, vers des difficultés socio-émotionnelles chez l'enfant. L'exubérance de l'enfant était le plus souvent sans lien avec la détresse psychologique des aidants et les difficultés socio-émotionnelles. Ces résultats soulignent la nécessité de soutenir la santé mentale des aidants d'un nourrisson présentant des traits autistiques afin d'améliorer la régulation émotionnelle et le développement socio-émotionnel de leurs nourrissons.
