Résumé : S'interrogeant sur la base neuronale de l'incarnation, les auteurs proposent une perspective neurobiologique sur l'ancrage et l'incarnation des concepts et de la signification. Une approche neuromécanistique de la cognition est soutenue en se référant au concept de Hebb de circuits neuronaux distribués ou d'assemblées cellulaires. Les arguments des auteurs sont liés aux données neurobiologiques les plus récentes montrant que les concepts concrets et abstraits dans le traitement du langage activent des régions cérébrales impliquées dans l'action et la perception, en accord avec la théorie incarnée du traitement et de la compréhension du langage. Les preuves empiriques proviennent d'études de neuroimagerie, mais aussi d'études sur des pathologies du neurodéveloppement telles que les troubles du spectre de l'autisme.
