Abstract
Neuroqueering is a verb, a simultaneous queering of norms such as neuronormativity and heteronormativity, that challenges fixed ideas of neurodivergence as disordered or deviant. Drawing on the neurodiversity paradigm and queer theory, this chapter explores how Neuroqueering can disrupt normative discourses in education, particularly through the lens of identity fluidity and positionality. Through queer narrative and literature review, this chapter traces the evolution of neurodiversity as a concept and critiques models that pathologise neurodivergent individuals. It highlights parallels between queer and neurodivergent experiences and proposes principles for a Neuroqueering curriculum. While the concept remains emergent, ideas and provocations are offered for educators and scholars to consider how Neuroqueering could contribute to transforming educational spaces into sites of safety, belonging, and radical possibility.
