Plusieurs études ont montré que les enfants présentant un trouble du spectre de l'autisme (TSA) présentent des anomalies du P3b en réponse aux cibles dans les tâches standard d'oddball. La présente étude a utilisé une tâche visuelle d'oddball à trois stimuli avec des distracteurs nouveaux, qui analysait les potentiels liés aux événements (PE) en réponse aux éléments cibles et non cibles aux sites frontaux et pariétaux. La tâche a testé l'hypothèse selon laquelle les enfants avec autisme orientent anormalement leur attention vers les distracteurs, probablement en raison d'une habituation altérée à la nouveauté. Nous avons prédit une sélectivité plus faible des PE précoces en réponse aux cibles, aux non-cibles fréquentes et aux distracteurs rares. Nous nous attendions également à des PE tardifs retardés dans l'autisme. L'étude a inclus 32 enfants TSA et 24 enfants au développement typique (DT). Le temps de réaction (TR) et l'exactitude ont été analysés comme mesures comportementales, tandis que les PE étaient enregistrés à l'aide d'un système EEG à réseau dense. Les enfants TSA présentaient un taux d'erreurs plus élevé sans ralentissement normatif du TR après erreur et avaient une négativité liée à l'erreur plus faible. Les composantes P1 pariétale, N1 frontale, ainsi que P3a et P3b, étaient plus élevées en réponse aux nouveaux stimuli dans le TSA. Des PE exogènes augmentés suggèrent une faible sélectivité dans le prétraitement des stimuli, entraînant leur traitement excessif à des stades ultérieurs. Les résultats suggèrent une habituation altérée aux stimuli non pris en compte, qui entraîne une charge élevée aux stades ultérieurs du traitement perceptif et cognitif et de la sélection de la réponse lorsque les stimuli distracteurs nouveaux sont différenciés des cibles.
