Les recherches suggèrent que, dans le trouble du spectre de l’autisme (TSA), une perturbation des interactions coordonnées des neurones au sein des réseaux locaux engendre des profils anormaux d’activité des ondes cérébrales dans la bande gamma. Il a été démontré que la stimulation magnétique transcrânienne (SMT) à basse fréquence appliquée sur le cortex préfrontal dorsolatéral (CPFDL) normalise les anomalies des oscillations gamma, les fonctions exécutives et les comportements répétitifs chez les personnes atteintes de TSA à haut niveau de fonctionnement. Dans cette étude, les oscillations de fréquence gamma en réponse à une tâche de classification visuelle (figures de Kanizsa) ont été analysées et comparées chez 19 personnes atteintes de TSA (diagnostiquées par l’ADI-R, âgées de 14,2 ± 3,61 ans, dont 5 filles) et 19 personnes neurotypiques appariées selon l’âge et le sexe (âgées de 14,8 ± 3,67 ans, dont 5 filles). Le groupe TSA a été traité par SMT à basse fréquence (1,0 Hz, 90 % du seuil moteur, 18 séances hebdomadaires) ciblant le CPFDL. Chez les sujets autistes, par rapport aux sujets neurotypiques, des différences significatives des oscillations gamma liées aux événements étaient évidentes en amplitude (plus élevée) avant la SMT. En outre, les enregistrements après le traitement par SMT chez nos sujets autistes ont révélé une réduction significative de la durée nécessaire pour atteindre l’amplitude maximale et une augmentation de la phase de décroissance (temps d’établissement). L’utilisation d’une nouvelle mesure des oscillations gamma, c’est-à-dire l’analyse de l’enveloppe, ainsi que les mesures de leur décroissance oscillatoire, nous ont permis de caractériser l’impédance du circuit neuronal d’origine. La décroissance oscillatoire ou l’amortissement des oscillations gamma dépend du tonus inhibiteur généré par les réseaux d’interneurones. Les résultats suggèrent que la décroissance oscillatoire des oscillations gamma pourrait fournir un biomarqueur reflétant l’équilibre excitateur/inhibiteur du cortex et une mesure de résultat potentielle pour les interventions dans l’autisme.
