Des methodologies telles que la recherche participative, feministe ou coproduite visent a democratiser la pratique de la recherche. Ces types de methodologies sont concus et adoptes par des militants alors qu'ils s'efforcent de modifier l'equilibre des pouvoirs. Les militants et les chercheurs peuvent former un couple mal assorti, et essayer d'etre a la fois militant et chercheur peut entrainer une confusion identitaire et des problemes de communication. Pourtant, dans le cadre d'une pratique democratique de la recherche, les chercheurs et d'autres personnes sont souvent tenus d'endosser de multiples identites. Cet article mettra en lumiere certaines des relations entre le militantisme, la recherche, l'identite et le pouvoir. Le recit d'un incident survenu au cours d'une recherche evaluative militante coproduite, qui menacait de compromettre cette recherche, illustre certaines des relations entre l'endossement de multiples identites et les desequilibres de pouvoir dans la pratique de la recherche militante coproduite. Le travail theorique de Karen Barad est utilise comme grille de lecture afin d'aider a elucider la complexite de ce phenomene et d'identifier ce que nous pouvons apprendre de tels incidents, et comment.
