Abstract

Within this chapter, Dr Barbara Sandland will invite the reader to consider the experiences of being neurodivergent within Higher Education, using her own lived experiences alongside her professional work. The chapter will provide an overview of neurodiversity and neurodivergence, highlighting some barriers experienced by neurodivergent academics and then exploring ideas to support individuals and institutions within their journey of inclusion. Positioned within the humanising theory, Dr Sandland will highlight that barriers are often experienced due to the academic environment; in doing so, she will empower us all to know we can make changes, however small, that will ultimately benefit us all.
