Resume En tant qu'activistes autistes, Shain M. Neumeier et Lydia X. Z. Brown travaillent depuis dix ans a fermer le Judge Rotenberg Center aux Etats-Unis, qui s'est livre a certaines des formes les plus flagrantes de tels abus, et plus generalement a mettre fin a l'utilisation de formes coercitives et abusives de « traitement » pour les personnes autistes et autres personnes handicapees. Pendant cette periode, ils et elles ont oeuvre a cet objectif par de multiples voies, notamment la defense des politiques publiques et juridique, l'organisation militante de terrain et la sensibilisation des medias. Ils et elles estiment que l'histoire du mouvement de la neurodiversite est remplie de cas d'abus, de violence et de traumatismes individuels et systemiques, qu'ils et elles se sont efforces de nommer et de faire cesser.

Abstract As autistic activists, Shain M. Neumeier and Lydia X. Z. Brown have been working to close the Judge Rotenberg Center in the US, which has engaged in some of the most egregious forms of such abuse, and more generally to end the use of coercive and abusive forms of “treatment” for autistic and other disabled people, for the past ten years. During that time, both of them have worked toward this goal through multiple avenues, including policy and legal advocacy, grassroots organizing, and media outreach. They believe that the neurodiversity movement’s history is rife with instances of individual and systemic abuse, violence, and trauma which they have been focused on naming and ending.
