Résumé
Cette méta-analyse a examiné les résultats de communication dans des études à plan à cas unique portant sur des interventions de communication améliorée et alternative (CAA), ainsi que leur relation avec les caractéristiques des participants. Les variables étudiées comprenaient l'âge chronologique, le mode de communication avant l'intervention, le répertoire productif et les compétences d'imitation avant l'intervention. Les chercheurs ont identifié 114 études à plan à cas unique ayant mis en oeuvre des interventions de CAA auprès de personnes d'âge scolaire présentant un trouble du spectre de l'autisme et/ou une déficience intellectuelle. Deux indices complémentaires de taille d'effet, Tau(AB) et le logarithme du ratio de réponse, ont été appliqués pour synthétiser les résultats. Les deux indices ont montré des effets positifs en moyenne, mais ont également présenté un degré élevé d'hétérogénéité. Les analyses de modérateurs ont détecté peu de différences d'efficacité lors de comparaisons entre les diagnostics, l'âge, le nombre et le type de modes de communication, les répertoires productifs des participants et les compétences d'imitation par rapport à l'intervention.
