Résumé

L’autisme est une condition neurodéveloppementale caractérisée par des particularités telles que des différences persistantes dans l’interaction sociale et la communication, des intérêts spécialisés et des difficultés de traitement sensoriel. Il a été établi que les personnes autistes sont de plus en plus susceptibles de connaître divers problèmes de santé mentale et rencontrent souvent des difficultés pour accéder à des soins de santé appropriés ainsi qu’un manque de compréhension de la part des professionnels de santé. Cet article examine la cooccurrence de l’autisme et des problèmes de santé mentale chez les adultes, et explique le rôle des infirmiers et infirmières dans la fourniture de soins et de soutien à cette population.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that is characterised by features such as persistent differences in social interaction and communication, specialised interests and sensory processing issues. It has been identified that autistic people are increasingly likely to experience various mental health issues, and often encounter challenges in accessing appropriate healthcare and a lack of understanding from healthcare professionals. This article explores the co-occurrence of autism and mental health issues in adults, and explains the role of nurses in providing care and support for this population.
