Résumé Les personnes autistes perçoivent le monde sensoriel différemment, ce qui a des répercussions sur le comportement. Des témoignages de première main et des recherches fondées sur des groupes ont montré que les différences sensorielles ont des répercussions sur divers aspects, notamment la vie familiale, l'anxiété, la participation et la vie quotidienne. Il est largement rapporté que les différences sensorielles précoces sont associées à une cascade de différences développementales, ce qui suggère qu'un diagnostic précoce de l'autisme et une cartographie sensorielle pourraient permettre la mise en place de soutiens favorisant l'épanouissement. Cependant, des outils de mesure appropriés ne sont pas disponibles, car tous reposent sur des rapports de tiers ou sont des mesures d'observation qui incluent des modalités ou des domaines limités et nécessitent l'administration de stimuli. Par conséquent, en suivant les recommandations de référence pour l'élaboration de mesures énoncées par le cadre PROMIS®, nous avons créé l'échelle d'évaluation de l'observation sensorielle de l'autisme (SOAR). Nous avons identifié les comportements sensoriels dans l'ensemble des principaux domaines et modalités grâce à une revue approfondie de la littérature sur l'autisme et le sensoriel ainsi qu'à des groupes de discussion avec des parties prenantes de l'autisme. La banque initiale d'items a ensuite été affinée par un panel d'experts et par le codage vidéo de cinq minutes de jeu libre provenant d'évaluations Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule de 105 enfants autistes et présentant un retard de développement appariés selon l'âge et le sexe (âgés de 13 à 36 mois ; 38 filles). Vingt-cinq pour cent supplémentaires de l'échantillon ont fait l'objet d'un double codage afin d'étudier la fidélité interévaluateurs. Les données observationnelles et l'examen par des experts ont soutenu la réduction de la banque d'items à 37 items. Nous proposons que la SOAR affinée présente une excellente validité apparente et écologique, ainsi qu'une fidélité interévaluateurs (corrélation intraclasse = 0,87-0,99). Après une collecte de données supplémentaire et un affinage, la SOAR est prometteuse pour caractériser pleinement les comportements sensoriels chez les enfants autistes et indiquer des soutiens utiles.
