Abstract
This chapter features the personal perspectives and research of an autistic scholar. The author explores: (a) an inclusive understanding of autism, which often goes undetected in girls and women, who present differently from males; (b) the author’s lived experience over three decades as an autistic female, mostly without the label; (c) lessons learned about terminology and language related to neurodiversity; and (d) how dual identities, as an autistic autism researcher, inform each other. The author’s final thoughts emphasize the importance of learning from and with autistic people who are uniquely qualified as authorities on autism needs and experiences.
