Abstract

Abstract Sam Fellowes, PhD, is a philosopher based at Lancaster University, UK. He has an MA in History and Philosophy of Science from University of Leeds and PhD in Philosophy of Psychiatry from Lancaster University. He became interested in psychiatric diagnoses after being diagnosed as autistic during his Masters. Since that time, he has been investigating the philosophical status of psychiatric diagnoses: what they are and what do we know of them. Drawing on the philosophical literature on scientific models, Fellowes has explored the status of psychiatric categories and conceptualizes categorical psychiatric diagnoses as idealized models which can be scientifically valuable even when they are not natural kinds.

Cited bibliography overview

These indicators describe the bibliography cited by this publication. An author name is counted each time it appears in one cited reference, so the same person can be counted more than once. Names not yet linked to an author already present in AutiHub are treated as unknown, not as non-autistic. Last computed: 2 Oct 2026 01:01.
