Abstract

As an autistic educator, scholar and advocate, the author offers insights while sharing his educational experiences throughout his life. He describes how his differences in learning and interacting with others led to anxiety, misunderstandings and confusion in grade school. Through these experiences, he reveals what helped him in education, including the structure of school, a desire to learn, the few teachers and administrators who intuitively understood and accommodated his social and educational needs, as well as the support of his parents. This chapter highlights major themes that touch on issues, concepts, and understandings gleaned from each of the previous chapters.
