Abstract
Abstract In this chapter, two poets and activists demonstrate how collaborative and justice-oriented work in the arts can help us both imagine a world led by people with disabilities and bring that world into being through creative forms of resistance. Lateef McLeod, a PhD candidate in anthropology and social change, imagines a revolutionary change effort in which liberation comes not through assistive devices or policy, but through constructing new cultural narratives that emphasize the “full, multi-faceted humanity of people with disabilities.” D.J. Savarese, poet and coproducer of the documentary Deej: Inclusion Shouldn’t Be a Lottery (2017), explains how autism has given him a visceral sense of the world’s interconnectedness, which has fundamentally shaped his collaborative artistic endeavors aimed at unsettling preconceived narratives about disability.
