Abstract

The chapter is set out as scenes from a play, a clinical psychologist reflecting on her practice and an autistic consultant educating her; they take turns to describe their interactions with each other and reflect on their collective learning journey towards having the same definition of the situation. They described how they found fruitful common ground in believing in the necessity of pursuing the opportunity offered when we sit uncomfortably with our professional practice. Their collective willingness to sit with that discomfort and the recognition of their mutual similarities created a space where moving forward, they can be safely vulnerable with each other in mutually uncharted territory.
