Abstract
This chapter illustrates group therapy focused on sexual health for Autistic adults. A critical review of practices in sex education, formal identification of autism, and psychotherapy complements a description of interventions rooted in sex positivity, the neurodiversity paradigm, the tenets of the Zen Peacemakers, mindfulness, queer feminism, and social justice. The activities described aim to support participants in bearing witness to varying levels of complexity from society to self. “Bear witness to society” describes methods to support participants in analysing media and developing an intersectional analysis of social power. “Bear witness to groups” describes how tools such as ecomaps and therapist leadership could help understand and shape social settings to become more inclusive. “Bear witness to other people” describes sexual communication. “Bear witness to the physical environment” describes modifications to mindfulness practice to accommodate Autistic sensory needs. “Bear witness to yourself” addresses building interoception, exploration of emotion, cognitive restructuring, and empowering narratives.
