Résumé

La spiritualite est une composante importante de la vie de nombreuses personnes. Tres peu d'informations sont disponibles sur la maniere dont la spiritualite affecte les personnes atteintes du syndrome d'Asperger, une forme d'autisme a haut niveau de fonctionnement. Cet article presente une vue d'ensemble du syndrome d'Asperger et examine la maniere dont la cognition se reflete dans leur developpement d'une theorie existentielle de l'esprit, leur propension pour les sciences et leur comprehension de la spiritualite. Il se conclut par une discussion sur la maniere dont les communautes fondees sur la foi peuvent favoriser la croissance personnelle et spirituelle.

Spirituality is an important component in the lives of many individuals. Very little information is available on how spirituality impacts individuals with Asperger's syndrome, a high functioning form of autism. This article presents an overview of Asperger's syndrome and discusses how cognition is reflected in their development of existential theory of mind, their propensity toward the sciences, and their understanding of spirituality. It concludes with a discussion of how faith-based communities may promote personal and spiritual growth.
