Résumé
Les parents d'enfants présentant un TSA ayant fréquenté un service d'urgence australien (SU ; n = 421) ont rempli un questionnaire relatif à leurs expériences au SU, incluant (1) le motif de consultation de l'enfant et les comorbidités existantes, (2) la qualité des soins durant la visite, (3) le comportement de l'enfant durant la visite, par exemple les réponses sensorielles à l'environnement du SU et les comportements perturbateurs. Les enfants présentant un TSA comorbide avec une déficience intellectuelle étaient plus susceptibles de consulter pour des problèmes gastro-intestinaux et des crises convulsives, tandis que ceux présentant un TSA comorbide avec un trouble oppositionnel avec provocation étaient plus susceptibles de consulter pour automutilation. La connaissance par le personnel du SU des problématiques liées au TSA, y compris la communication et l'expression de la douleur, constituait une difficulté fréquente pour les parents. L'environnement du SU (par exemple, les lumières, les sons, les salles d'attente) exacerbait l'anxiété de l'enfant et entraînait des comportements perturbateurs.
