Abstract

What is the impact of receiving an autism diagnosis in middle-to-late adulthood (defined as over 40 years)? To identify and synthesise shared themes across qualitative studies that relate to the autistic adults experiences of receiving an autism diagnosis in later life. Specifically, to consider experiences relating to: - Pre- and post-diagnosis, - Their autistic identity - Psychological outcomes (e.g. identity and/or sense of self, quality of life, emotional wellbeing, resilience). This review will also aim to examine what factors may shape an older autistic adults' experience of their diagnosis and/or their life thereafter.
