Abstract

This poster examines whether autism identity can buffer the negative effects of stigma on well-being by testing the Rejection–Identification Model in autistic adults. Using data from 189 autistic adults recruited online, mediation analyses showed that stronger autism identity partially protected well-being outcomes (self-esteem and life satisfaction) in the context of stigma, but did not buffer mental health symptoms (anxiety and depression). Findings provide partial support for the model and suggest that fostering positive autism identity and community connection may support well-being and inclusion.
