Abstract

This autoethnography explores my lived experience as an autistic woman and mother, navigating life through music. Using narrative methods with a phenomenological lens, it seeks to expand knowledge of a lifeworld rarely seen in academic literature. Within an ecological systems framework, I examine identity shaped by musicking, growing understandings of autism, evolving communities of practice, and an Australian upbringing threaded with Gaelic heritage and family. The findings reveal music’s power to connect, create, and heal, highlighting transformation through self-knowledge within culture and broader cultural social contexts.
