Abstract
This Scoping Review aims to explore existing literature on Autistic masking in people with intersectional identities. In order to capture as many intersecting identities as possible, and so as to not further marginalise already minoritised identities, intersectionality will be conceptualised as Autistic identity (diagnosed or self-identified) in people with further minoritised identities - the latter captured by the mnemonic of ‘Social GRRRAAACCEEESSS’ (Burham and Roper-Hall, 2012). Whilst some research has begun to explore Autistic masking in people with intersectional identities, this will be the first attempt to provide a broad overview of the literature. The Scoping review will be conducted in accordance with the guidelines for Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews (PRISMA-ScR). After defining the research question and developing the search strategy, selected databases will be searched, results will be screened twice before undergoing data extraction and data synthesis. Results will then be written as the literature review of the research project for one of the researchers’ Clinical Psychology doctorate and hopefully prepared for publication. It is expected that the majority of relevant research will focus on Autistic masking in groups identified by identities related to gender, race and/or sexual orientation. It is expected that there will be a lack of research relating to people who are non-speaking.
