Abstract

This chapter, written by two neurodivergent parents on neurodivergent children, emphasise the importance of agency (i.e., facilitating psychological understanding with a person and their family in a way that is collaborative, democratic, and non-pathologising) and reflect on the devastating effects of not having agency (i.e., not just hindering recovery but also leading to new challenges/conditions). This chapter aims to support practitioners to reflect on their capacity to increase agency in everyday practice, employing a neurodiversity affirmative perspective.
