Résumé
Our objectives are to update analyses reported in earlier versions of Project AIM: (a) the proportion of studies that mention adverse events, and (b) quantities of each type of adverse event. We then sought to explore new aspects of adverse event monitoring and reporting: (c) what proportion of studies provide adverse event monitoring protocol details, including whether monitoring was active, passive, or both; procedures for distinguishing between adverse events and adverse effects; procedures for distinguishing between adverse events and severe/serious adverse events; and procedures for assessing harms (i.e., adverse events after the intervention period is over); (d) what proportion of studies interpret adverse events in the discussion and/or conclusion of their studies; (e) what proportion of studies mention adverse events and provide protocol descriptions by intervention type. We also aim to determine (f) trends over time in reporting adverse events and describing monitoring protocols.
