Abstract

1. Investigate the overlap between post-traumatic symptoms (e.g., hyperarousal, dissociation, avoidance, emotional dysregulation) and core autism-related behaviors in children and adolescents, with a focus on identifying potential diagnostic confusion or misclassification between Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and trauma-related disorders such as PTSD and Complex PTSD (CPTSD). 2. Identify clinical markers or symptom profiles that may help distinguish trauma-related presentations from autistic traits. 3. Explore how early traumatic experiences (e.g., abuse, neglect, or cumulative adverse events) may influence the expression of autistic-like behaviors or mimic ASD symptoms. 4. Evaluate the implications of symptom overlap on assessment practices, diagnostic accuracy, and intervention strategies for clinicians working with children and adolescents.
