Abstract
Aim: To synthesise existing evidence on which individuals are most commonly missed or experience delayed autism identification and diagnosis, and to examine the factors contributing to these diagnostic gaps. Objectives: To document which populations (the who) are at risk of missed, late, misdiagnosed, or delayed autism diagnoses. To describe the factors (the why) contributing to those diagnostic gaps. To inform future directions for psychological assessment and screening practices of autism, especially for individuals with non-stereotypical Autistic presentations. Review Questions Who is most likely to be missed, misdiagnosed, or experience late or delayed autism identification and diagnosis? What factors contribute to or predict missed, late, misdiagnosed, or delayed autism identification and diagnosis?
